They followed vanity.
"And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the Lord had charged them, that they should not do like them" (2 Kings 17:15 KJV). Christ has been rejected so much in the last few decades. So many things have come upon this world that has taken mans' eyes away from the true living God. Dark and evil spirits have come that gratify the flesh and imitate godliness. A religious spirit is determined to blind many from the truth, and it prevents many from receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. We read in the 2 Corinthians 11:14 that the devil masquerades himself as light. The devil did not only masquerade himself then; he still does it today. Many are blinded by the devil, and his games have confused and led many stray. Many chase after one thing then another, only to come out emptied, lost, and filled with corruption. So much rejection, that comes from the heart of man, is found among us. Christ was also rejected. He was rejected and despised by His own people. They did not even welcome Him nor make Him feel at home. So, Christ can sympathize with what many are going through today, those who feel rejected and alone. Let us not give up on what God has given us so freely. Let us not throw in the towel and reject God for some false imitating gratification that comes from the devil himself. Let's hold on to the faith. Hold on to the true light and fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ. You will not regret it. Praise God and amen
